Asbury United Methodist Church & the Kunta Kinte–Alex Haley Foundation Partner to host a Family History Legacy Project
(Annapolis, MD, May 8, 202) — Asbury United Methodist Church and the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation will host a Bible Ancestral Tree Copying Event on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church in Annapolis, MD.
The oldest African American church in Anne Arundel County and the Foundation are recognized for their commitment to projects that promote the preservation of family history, heritage, and genealogy. They are inviting families with lineage in Asbury to take part in this one-day Bible Ancestral Tree Copying Project. Families with ties to Asbury’s long history are invited to copy their family ancestral tree, often located in the front of the family Bible, to be added as a permanent record in Asbury’s ancestral preservation repository. Participants will also receive a tour of the Asbury Museum, filled with over 100 artifacts, covering 222 years of the church’s history. Participants will also be able to view legacy videos capturing the voices of Asbury elders, 80 to nearly 100 years old, as they revisit Asbury’s illustrious past. In addition, attendees will be able to participate in brief, varying genealogy sessions.
Since 1803, Asbury has been a beacon of hope for the community it serves and is a pillar within the Annapolis African American community. The Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation is an organization dedicated to the exploration, rediscovery, and preservation of Alex Haley’s symbolic journey of African American history, family heritage, and genealogy. With the support of the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation, Asbury plans to preserve these records as part of its long-standing dedication to preserving African American history and heritage.
This event is perfect for anyone interested in discovering more about their roots and connecting with a community of genealogists who share a passion for uncovering the past, while discovering new insights into their personal family stories.
