2011 Annual Meeting

The Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation held an Annual Meeting on September 29, 2011, at Sojourner Douglass College in Edgewater, Maryland, at which the Foundation honored its sustaining partners. Each of the sustaining partners has provided ongoing support to the Foundation and has provided significant help in implementing the Foundation’s Mission.

There were four awardees for sustaining partnership.

  • The Books for International Good Will (BIG) of the Parole Rotary Club for books provided to support the Foundation’s Resource and Research Center. Receiving the award for the BIG project were Dr. Stephen Frantzich and Joyce Eldelson.
  • Watermark for financial support provided to the Foundation from its African American Heritage Walk. Receiving the award for Watermark was Heather Skipper.
  • The Souza Agency for their graphic design and marketing support. Receiving the award for The Souza Agency was Anthony & Roseanne Souza.
  • Sojourner Douglass College for housing the Foundation and related assistance. Receiving the award for Sojourner Douglass College was Dr. Charlestine Fairley.

The Foundation also used the occasion of the Annual Meeting to provide special acknowledgment, recognition, and thanks to Judith Cabral who has provided staff leadership support to the Foundation as the Vice President Program & Research, since its inception. This recognition was on the occasion of her departure from the Foundation for employment with the State of Maryland. Foundation Board member, Mr. John Moses, presented a plaque that will name the Foundation’s Resource Center after Judy, in honor of her significant contribution in leading the development of the collection. Students from the Sojourner Douglass College, Middle College Program thank Judy for her support to the College and the Middle College Program. Dr. Fairley, Dean of the College speaks from the podium.
